Teach Music Online In Action

Case studies from music teachers just like you!

“Since joining, my studio has grown 300% and I do not pay for a single advertisement. I simply use the methods of advertising that I learned in the TMO course.”

Before I joined TMO, I knew almost nothing about teaching online. I felt completely insecure, foolish, and inadequate when it came to online teaching. My online teaching knowledge was insufficient in so many ways. I knew nothing about camera angles, lighting, sound, not to mention marketing. I did not know how to create and maintain a youtube channel, record and share videos, and keep up with a Facebook business and Instagram account. I did not know anything about google products, and I had never used zoom, Rock Out Loud, or any other communication software designed to communicate with students. What in the world is “share screen?” The list goes on and on and on.

My computer was archaic, to say the least, and I did not have much of any of the equipment that I have now learned is so helpful in teaching online. When I first heard about TMO, I simply did not know what I did not know. I was just shooting in the dark.

All I knew was that I was at a loss. My studio was dying. I did not know where to turn.

I happened upon TMO in an advertisement and it changed my world. My only regret is that I hesitated to join the course. At the time, I was more than just a little worried about the money. Looking back, I wish I had jumped in with both feet the very first day I first heard about the course. The course is worth gold. Rolling forward to now… I have paid for the course many MANY times over and it has just been a little over a year. Wow!

Since beginning TMO I am no longer a bit insecure about my online teaching. My online private and group classes are engaging, students laughing as they learn, rich in content, fun, and I teach with great confidence. My knowledge of equipment and software has grown exponentially. A graph of my learning curve must be a vertical line. I have learned so much! I am now able to easily navigate the technology needed to meet all my online teaching needs.

The pandemic hit my studio hard. I dropped from over sixty down to eleven students which is where I was when I began the Teach Music Online course. Since joining, my studio has grown 300% and I do not pay for a single advertisement. I simply use the methods of advertising that I learned in the TMO course. I post student spotlights to my Facebook page, then share the fun information with parents and they share. I ask students and parents for reviews and now, steady prospects have come my way because of the reviews and word of mouth. I respond to inquiries with a streamlined process which I learned inside the TMO course. It only takes a moment of my time to respond and weed out the casual inquiries. Then I spend more time on those prospects that are more serious.

At the beginning of the pandemic, students as well as other teachers asked me if I was reducing my rates because I was teaching online. I contemplated this, but only for a short while. It did not take me long to realize online lessons are an incredible value! Online lessons are engaging, richly full of content, and students never have to miss a lesson. If a student has to miss due to illness or an important event, I simply record a lesson and send it to them. Students are making MORE progress online than they were making when they were taking in-person lessons. Additionally, parents do not have to drive to lessons. That is time saved for both the parent and the student. What can anyone do with the extra time? It is an all-around win-win situation. In fact, I recently raised my rates. I raise them every fall. I raised rates for Fall 2020, and all my students who pre-registered for Fall 2021 incurred another increase.

TMO and the TMO community is amazing. I love how the community offers counsel and advice as well as holds one another accountable. I have learned to set up regular office hours during my weekly schedule. I am much better about utilizing my office hours to complete my non-teaching duties so that I am not stringing out my work throughout the week 24/7. Others in the community have inspired me to practice my own instrument on a more regular basis. This has brought back a passion for performing that I had started to lose. The community is such a positive force! Any questions we have about anything are answered by so many. So many ideas are bounced around inside the community. The TMO community is a wealth of knowledge. It is wonderful.

Teach Music Online has truly transformed me in so many ways. I’ve met some great people inside the TMO course who I consider colleagues and friends for a lifetime. It is wonderful to be able to interact on such a regular basis with other like-minded friends and professional musicians.

Recently, I was able to make an extensive trip across the country to spend time with an ill family member. Before TMO, this would have been a business hardship, but because of TMO, I was able to travel and spend coveted time with my family as well as teach. It was a very special time that I will always treasure. I look forward to more working trips to see family. Thank you, TMO!

I guess a brief summary could be this: At the beginning of the pandemic before I found TMO, my studio lost a lot of students. I contemplated closing my studio and ceasing teaching. I was a bit depressed and very discouraged and I did not know what to do. I knew there had to be a solution because I know that I am called to teach. I searched for an answer and I was shown one. My answer was and still is Teach Music Online. The course is not stagnant, but rather it continues to grow. It covers so many topics that I know I can never possibly learn everything. As technology grows, so will TMO. Content will be added to keep up with the times. TMO, for me, you are a keeper. You have transformed my life and I am grateful.

I look forward to a face-to-face convention one day.

“Carly made the concept of learning new technology concepts seem easy, attainable, and available to any music teacher who wanted to learn and who wanted to expand their studio’s social media footprint.”

I happened upon TMO from a Facebook ad.  Back in January 2021 I signed up for one of Carly's free webinars, I showed up, I listened, took notes. Then hesitated to register.

I am not tech-savvy, the idea of online music lessons frightened me.  March of 2020, covid forced me to move to teach music online.  I used the zoom format from the start but had not initiated any of the helpful tools zoom had to offer.  I needed Teaching Music Online, I needed to equip myself with online activities, digital resources, a music-filled digital library, to understand the new frontier of teaching music.  I needed to learn how to utilize google drive, creating folders, templates, and other resources to aid in my online studio.

I remembered the January Teach Music Online webinar and remembered Carly's excitement for her course and the passion she had to help other music teachers.  Carly made the concept of learning new technology concepts seem easy, attainable, and available to any music teacher who wanted to learn and who wanted to expand their studio’s social media footprint.

I signed up in May 2021, I was excited and eager to start my journey towards upgrading my studio from analog to digital.  Carly's modules have helpful videos with step-by-step action challenges to move you towards automation.  Whenever I have had a question, Carly has answered it in a timely manner.  (Which I very much appreciate.)  If Carly is unable to answer, others in the membership are willing and able to help. She is positive and encouraging and has created a community of like-minded musicians who cheer for one another, come alongside and equip one another to build one another up.  The members share their amazing stories giving you the encouragement to continue.

Teach Music Online has given me a goal.  I am completing my Facebook business page, working on a website,  researching webcams, overhead cameras, headphones, digital games, activities, music, and scheduling resources.  All subjects I overlooked or ignored.  Teach Music Online has given me direction and a new passion.  I am excited about the next season in my teaching career.

I am finishing up my studio season presently, I know if I follow Carly's course and do the modules, my studio numbers will increase, reading Pamela Jack’s story is proof Carly's course Teach Music Online works.  Many of my current students are thrilled with the direction I am taking my studio.  I have been encouraged and am forever grateful, Thank You Carly!

“TMO has removed the guesswork and provided a clear structure for growth.”

“Before joining TMO I was afraid of retention as virtual lessons require a different set of skills. I’m not very business savvy so just the thought of marketing was jarring. TMO is laid out perfectly for those of us with an analytical bent. Everything is so clearly laid out and the marketing tips are organic and utilize mediums I’m familiar with. I’m comfortable now with marketing, following up with potential clients, and teaching online. Google docs have really helped with HW Assignments and progress tracking. I feel very confident now!

I've had so many fantastic results since joining! I have 5 total new students. had 9 inquiries but had to decline 4 due to bandwidth and/or no longer teaching in person. I use my YT channel and FB page for marketing, especially if a parent wants more info quickly ahead of a call. I still let my circle know if I’m accepting new students. I also have adjusted my age range of students (noted on YT and FB), as I am not keen on teaching young beginners

I increased my rates by $10 and went to a monthly charge that doesn’t break down the per Lesson rate. I plan to raise my rates again in January. I increased them to cover payment processing costs and YT content creation. Also, the increase was based on the TMO calculator

Everyone inside the TMO community has been very positive and encouraging, providing helpful links, articles, and app suggestions. I’ve always received the vibe from this group that nothing is too hard!

I now have the “how-to” figured out and will continue to grow. TMO has removed the guesswork and provided a clear structure for growth. The onboarding process and lesson planning have always been an issue. I no longer dread the planning and may add new students to my studio now that admin tasks are becoming more automated. It's all very exciting, I'm so grateful for this program!”

“When reviewing what Teach Music Online has done for me, I can’t say enough. Not only am I a different music business owner today, but my perspectives on life have changed as well.”

I came to Teach Music Online as a neophyte, inexperienced in the ways of the digital world. Although I had a well-established career, the online environment was not a part of my daily activities. Computers were used only in an ancillary capacity for purposes of research, chronicling events, and updating promo material. Anything else was not on my radar screen.

TMO has taken this stance and challenged me to “think outside the box.” It has provided a forum and support system, allowing me to freely create and develop my own niche. As a result, I have been able to face one of my biggest struggles in life: the fear of failure.

I now approach everything with a renewed hope and positive outlook, knowing my colleagues are cheering me on. They’re even there to help pick me up when I stumble!

All areas of my business have improved, including student inquiries, onboarding, and retention. To date, I have almost grown my studio back to where it was before Covid. With the new strategies of using Google, revamping my personal website, and beefing up my professional contacts locally, I have managed to attract those few extra individuals who are serious about pursuing their piano studies. For me, this is about quality and not quantity!

Marketing tactics have been constantly evolving, too, thanks to some of the incredible discussions we have had at our monthly meetings. Currently, I’m looking at SEO options and working through the TMO course, a gem of a resource for growing and sustaining a music business in the modern-day era. Carly is constantly adding on new sections for us to explore as well, keeping everything fresh and cutting edge.

I’ve also gained the confidence to adjust my fees on an annual basis without feeling self-conscious about it. In this regard, the tuition calculator has played an invaluable role in determining how to realistically project financial growth. Anyway, my studio is worth it, plain and simple; I’m giving my all to make sure clients receive top-flight instruction.

Most important though is the “sense of belonging” I feel in the TMO community. But taking it a step further, I’ve discovered that “participation” in activities is the mortar (key ingredient) that holds everything beautifully together. We simply can’t make it without one another; we’re an organization that needs input to stay alive. This is why I’ve always made it my priority to regularly comment on posts. I want to keep us welcoming as well as thriving! It’s a “work in progress.”

When reviewing what Teach Music Online has done for me, I can’t say enough. Not only am I a different music business owner today, but my perspectives on life have changed as well. I’m a better person for having been a part of TMO. The future is becoming something I can happily embrace!

Carly, thanks so much for your vision and inspiration during these times!

“Since joining TMO I increased my rates three times with the helpful rate calculator tool along with the mentorship and coaching of an incredible community.”

Before joining Teach Music Online I didn't know how to teach online at all! I had so much fear to teach even one student online!

Because of Teach Music Online I am now not only successful teaching online and enjoy it, but also have no fear of teaching thousands of people overseas through online teaching webinars.

I've been successful in recruiting many new students online through my website. People refer to me because I am the only teacher that can teach online successfully in my area.

Before TMO I took all students that would come to me but now I am very selective because I know I only need to focus on doing my best and the best students will come to me. I never thought I could teach less and be selective with students. The big difference is I have so many options now. I have the right to decide what I really what to do. I also have more time with my family.

Since joining TMO I increased my rates three times with the helpful rate calculator tool along with the mentorship and coaching of an incredible community.

Because of the TMO, I am now a better teacher and a better student! It is such a joy to know all other teachers here in the TMO community, they have become family! The teachers in the community motivated me to become a more likable person and a better learner. The support in this group is so strong. I've made some amazing friendships with teachers! How wonderful is that.
